MILITARISATION OF THE HUNTER - RESOURCES

Published on 22 November 2025 at 19:09

The Hunter Region will play a significant part in the expansion of Australia's production of weapons, with all levels of Government, and TAFE and the University of Newcastle playing a role. The Hunter is also one of two locations considered to house nuclear submarines, and a possible site for dumping the nuclear waste of our AUKUS partners.

This is not the vision we need or want. At a time when we must rapidly transition to a low carbon economy, when international humanitarian law is disregarded with catastrophic consequences in Palestine, Sudan, DRC, West Papua etc, and when our communities call for disengagement from the dangerous US empire, we need to organise and mobilise to create an alternative future.

Below are some resources to help you gain a greater understanding of how this is unfolding in the Hunter Region.
